An award-winning Angus butcher is proving to be a prime cut above the competition after taking home another national trophy.
Alan Pirie of James Pirie and Son in Newtyle took home the gold in the steak and gravy pie category at the World Scotch Pie Championships in Dunfermline.
Mr Pirie, 63, has been a butcher all his working life, and the family owned business has won a total of 169 awards across the world since opening in the village in 1960.
He said this latest accolade was a “tremendous achievement” for a small butchers tucked away in rural Angus.
“It’s our good quality products and materials that set us aside I think,” Mr Pirie said.
“We simply use the best stuff and handle our pies with care. They’re all hand-made in small batches and we give them great attention while making them.”
