A bingo hall groper who was found guilty of sexually assaulting two women has been spared jail.
David Dunn from Dundee grabbed one of the women as she sat alone on a couch at Mecca Bingo in the city, telling her she had “beautiful eyes”.
The 46-year-old appeared at Forfar Sheriff Court for sentencing on Thursday, where he was told his “exceptional” completion of previous community work had saved him from prison.
The bingo hall complainer told a trial that she was “frozen” with fear at the assault and “just wanted to get away.”
After the assault, Dunn went outside and grabbed another woman’s behind.
The trial heard the offences had been alcohol related and Dunn had stopped drinking.
Sheriff Gregor Murray told Dunn, of Milnbank Road, would be supervised by social work for 18 months, and subject to notification requirements under the sex offenders register for the same period.
He said: “I think you know there was only one sentence for you at the start of this, but by chance you’ve since completed a community payback order exceptionally well.
“You’ve stopped drinking, you’ve changed your life around, and that means there is an alternative to sentencing you to a lengthy period in prison.
“The only alternative is to impose the maximum amount of hours I can that’s 300 and I’ll give you 18 months to do them.”
Defending Dunn, solicitor Amy Fox stated social workers said that they had no concerns about this type of offending from this man.”
The court also heard that the accused had not come to the attention of the police during the deferral period.
Dunn, Milnbank Road, was found guilty of sexually assaulting a woman by engaging her in conversation, sitting beside her and placing his hand between her legs, touching her thigh over her clothing, close to her groin and putting his arm around her and touching her breast at Mecca Bingo on July 16.
The woman told the trial: “I tried to ignore him but he came closer to me.
“He crouched down and grabbed the top of my leg. He squeezed at me for a few seconds. I pure froze.”
Dunn was also found guilty of sexually assaulting a woman at Nethergate on the same date by touching her buttock over her clothing.
