Kirriemuir man facing sentence after knife rage suicide threat

A Kirriemuir man who grabbed a knife and threatened to kill himself in a family row will be sentenced next month.

David Kelly demanded money from his sister to buy drugs in the incident at the family home on February 19, but when she refused he flew into a rage, Forfar Sheriff Court heard.

Kelly, 27, of Glengate, originally appeared on indictment in relation to the offence, but admitted a reduced summary charge of behaving in a threatening manner, throwing items around, threatening suicide, demanding money and arming himself with a kitchen knife.

The court heard Kelly left the house when police were called but officers found the kitchen knife in the garden and the accused was traced soon after.

The accused’s solicitor said Kelly had not been back to the house since the incident.

Sheriff Murray imposed a bail condition banning Kelly from entering Knowehead Crescent, where the offence took place, and deferred sentence until April 30.
