The funeral of the chairman of the Forfar branch of Royal British Legion Scotland has taken place.
Well-known local fundraiser Mick McKeown died on January 8 after he was struck by a bus on Don Street, Forfar.
Mr McKeown also represented Angus and Perthshire on Legion Scotland’s national board of trustees and people from around Scotland attended a service at Lowson Memorial Church on Wednesday.
The coffin was piped in as the Legion colours were displayed by standard bearers at the doors of the church. There were also representatives from the Riders Branch of Legion Scotland.
Local dignitaries including former Angus provost Bill Middleton and current Forfar councillor Glennis Middleton paid their respects at the well-attended funeral.
Mr McKeown joined the British Army at the age of 15 and served for 40 years obtaining the rank of Regimental Sergeant Major warrant officer class one in the Royal Artillery.
The latter part of his service was spent as a careers adviser in the recruitment office on Barrack Street in Dundee.
He started his involvement with the British Legion in Forfar while he was still serving in the army, taking on the role of chairman.
He was also heavily involved in the inception of the Festival of Remembrance in Dundee.
A keen runner and cyclist, he undertook several challenges to raise money for Legion funds, including a 400-mile cycle from Edinburgh to Wootton Bassett in Wiltshire, a three-week cycle around the Scottish coast and the London Marathon.
Mr McKeown is survived by his son Douglas.
