Provost of Angus Helen Oswald.
Homes for refugees fleeing Syria have been identified by Angus Council.
Provost Helen Oswald said the local authority will do “all it can” to aid families fleeing the war-torn nation, as it emerged council officers have already pinpointed suitable accommodation.
Councillors passed an emergency motion ahead of yesterday’s Convention of Scottish Local Authorities summit to ensure the county is ready for action.
Councillor Craig Fotheringham seconded the document, saying the council is “ready to provide assistance” and councillor Donald Morrison pledged the area would welcome refugees “with open arms”.
As part of the move the council commended the work of local community groups working to assist those in need both in Scotland and overseas.
