A Tayside police officer is facing charges he assaulted a suspect then covered it up in a report.
Dean Miller, 28, was called at Arbroath Sheriff Court on Tuesday after an alleged incident in the town on June 18 2010. Defence agent Nick Whelan entered a not-guilty plea to two charges in his client’s absence.
Miller denies assaulting Anthony Allan Davies at Seaton Caravan Park by punching him on the face to his injury during an apprehension.
He further denies a second charge that, between June 18 and 21 2010, he omitted information relating to the alleged assault from a prosecution report to avoid investigation and prosecution.
The charge states the report was written at Arbroath police office, the then-Tayside Police offices in Baluniefield, Dundee, or elsewhere unknown.
It is alleged he filed the report, reference number PTP9012560610, in an attempt to pervert the course of justice.
Miller’s address on the charge was recorded as Tayside Police Force Headquarters, West Bell Street, Dundee.
The matter was continued until Tuesday October 22.
