The Arbroath-based Royal Marines of 45 Commando Group held a memorial service as part of the nationwide Afghanistan Service of Commemoration.
Services were held in the Woodlands Garden at RM Condor on the town’s outskirts, with marines led in tribute by unit chaplain the Rev Mark Davidson.
The service took place on Friday, the same day as the national service of commemoration held at St Paul’s Cathedral in London.
Twelve marines from 45 Commando died serving in the 13-year conflict.
The service directly focused on those individuals who have served on operations in Afghanistan and members of the unit were present at both RM Condor and at St Paul’s Cathedral.
During the service in Woodlands Garden, Major ECM Hall, Warrant Officer Class 2 A Leaver, and Corporal Thornton, all from Zulu Company, each gave a description of 45 Commando Group’s role on the three operational tours that the unit undertook.
