Forfar police incident: Man’s arrest not related to local area
ByThe Courier Reporter
A man arrested in a major police operation in Forfar has been taken to another part of the country to face charges.
Police ruled out any links to offending in Tayside or Fife following the arrest of 29-year-old Jonathan Pickering in the town on Saturday morning.
Pickering was arrested after a fleet of 10 police cars and vans was seen on St James Road. The activity sparked huge interest on social media as police refused to confirm the nature of the operation.
Following the widespread speculation, a spokesman for Tayside Division confirmed Pickering is not wanted for any offence in its policing area at present.
It is understood he was wanted on warrant from another policing area, but Police Scotland could not confirm which one.
The busy Forfar road was closed while the incident, initially described as “major”, continued. Pickering was subsequently arrested.
