A student has been fined £300 after challenging a car wash worker while out drinking with friends.
Scott Whitton was walking past the facility in Dalhousie Street, Monifieth, when he became embroiled in the argument with the employee, before turning his anger towards police who were called to arrest him.
At Forfar Sheriff Court, Whitton, 27, of Traquair Gardens, Dundee, admitted resisting arrest and behaving in a threatening or abusive manner on March 1 this year.
Depute fiscal Hannah Kennedy told the court Whitton, who has no previous convictions, had been out with friends when he came to the attention of one of the car wash staff.
“He became aggressive towards him, challenged him to fight and was shouting and swearing at him in very close proximity,” said the fiscal.
“The witness didn’t wish to engage with the accused and contacted the police.”
Officers attended but Whitton’s behaviour continued towards them.
En route to the custody office, however, the accused realised the trouble he was in.
He told them: “I’m sorry, I was being an idiot and wasting your time.”
Defence solicitor Michael Boyd said Whitton was studying engineering and also has a part-time job in a supermarket.
“He accepts his behaviour was completely unacceptable,” said the agent.
“He was under the influence of alcohol when this happened but has now addressed that issue.”
Sheriff Gregor Murray said: “I will sentence you on the basis that this will not be repeated.”
