An Angus man has been jailed for the assault and attempted robbery of a woman on a busy street.
John Paul McCormick, 24, from Condor Crescent, Montrose, appeared from custody at Forfar Sheriff Court on Monday.
He admitted assaulting a woman on Montrose High Street by pushing her on the body and causing her to fall to the ground on October 14.
He also admitted a charge that he attempted to pull the woman’s handbag and another bag from her body.
The court heard that he demanded that she give him money from her bags.
McCormick also admitted that, later on the same date at Greggs on the High Street, he stole a charity bucket and its contents.
The court heard both offences occurred when McCormick was on bail.
He previously appeared from custody at Forfar on October 15 and denied the charges but changed his plea at the trial diet.
Sentencing McCormick to 10 months in prison, Sheriff Gregor Murray remarked that he was surprised the matter was calling at summary and not indictment level.
