Tealing Community Council could soon be born again after a welcome surge in interest to see the body survive.
Only one name was put forward from the village during an extended nomination period for the recent community council elections that ran through September into October.
That sole expression of interest fell short of the minimum four required to form a community council for Tealing.
However, the community has rallied with submission of a petition bearing a total of 24 signatories, meaning arrangements can begin again for the establishment of the body.
Angus Council Communities convener, Councillor Donald Morrison said: “It is very heartening to see that the people of Tealing have recognised their community council’s worth.
“Tealing community council has and will now continue to provide a voice for its residents and play an important democratic role in the decisions that affect their community.”
Letters and nomination packs have been sent to all 24 of the petition signatories along with the person who previously submitted a nomination paper.
Nominations forms can also be obtained from the Returning Officer (Community Council Elections), Elections Office, Angus House, Orchardbank Business Park, Forfar, DD8 1AN, or downloaded from the elections and voting page of the council’s website.
Nomination papers must be submitted no later than 4pm on Friday January 15.
If an election is contested, a notice of poll will be published on January 28 and voting will take place in February.
The positive Tealing development comes after the local authority also revealed that Arbroath community council may also rise again after a two-year absence.
It had been feared that the largest burgh in Angus would be left without a community voice after a lukewarm response to the call for nominations.
However, a late flurry of 11 valid submissions took the figure over the required minimum.
The scheduled date for the inaugural public meeting of the new Community Council is Thursday January 21.
It will be held from 7.30pm at the training room, Voluntary Action Angus in Guthrie Port.
