A motorcyclist was treated for serious injuries following an accident on the main Dundee to Aberdeen road on Thursday.
The man in his forties was taken to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary following a collision involving a car.
Although serious, it is understood his injuries are not life threatening.
The condition of the car driver was not known.
The crash happened at around 3pm on the northbound carriageway of the A90, a mile south of Stonehaven.
The road was closed until late last night while police investigated the crash scene.
Rush-hour traffic was heavily disrupted as a result as motorists were diverted on to the A92 coastal road at Brechin, leading to long delays.
A spokesman for Police Scotland said: “Following a serious road traffic collision involving a motorcycle on the A90 northbound carriageway around one mile south of Stonehaven, the A90 northbound is to remain closed for the time being.
“Southbound traffic is unaffected. The male motorcyclist was taken by ambulance to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary with serious injuries.”
At around the same time, another accident happened on the same road 40 miles south, near Forfar.
The driver of a lorry sustained a head injury when his vehicle jack-knifed.
He was taken by ambulance to Ninewells Hospital in Dundee, where he was said to be in a stable condition.
There was no road closure resulting from the incident at Forfar.
