Arbroath town centre is the latest area in Angus to have a design charrette a consultation and design programme that gathers local opinions, ideas and aspirations, with a view to delivering a vision of what communities want in the short, medium and long term.
Brechin, Carnoustie and Forfar have recently taken part in their own creative conversations, activities and events and looked at existing and possible future services, including housing, retail, leisure and tourism.
Arbroath’s charrette will get under way on Tuesday February 2 and over the following two days, from a base at St Andrew’s Church, local people, businesses and agencies can have their say.
Charrettes are collaborative events that bring together local people of all ages with highly qualified, experienced design and planning professionals.
Together they seek to find solutions that will benefit the area over the short and long term.
The Arbroath Talks programme has been developed by Angus Council with funding assistance from Scottish Government.
Communities convener and Arbroath East and Lunan councillor Donald Morrison said: “There has been a tremendous amount of energy, enthusiasm and interest around the charrettes we have held across Angus so far.
“I am sure this one in Arbroath will also get people talking.
“These intensive design workshops offer a platform for people to say what they want and what they need in their community. It allows them to help shape the future plans for where they live.
“Residents can come together with community groups, private sector agencies and community planners to fix upon the practical and ambitious ways that their communities can be enhanced.
“We want people to talk and to hear what they are saying.”
