A wealth of local talent is set to appear at Arbroath Rotary Club’s charity variety show in the Webster Theatre on Friday.
The concert is being hailed as one of the best examples of a community coming together to work for its own good in the town for some time.
The concert has been organised by Rotary members and is being produced by well-known local stage producer James Hutcheson with sponsorship by Thornton’s and Coast.
“We are genuinely delighted at the way the Arbroath community has rallied round to help us put on this show,” said Rotary president David Miller.
“I think the show is demonstrating just how much terrific and diverse talent we have in our community with a show that includes singing, dancing and comedy all to a very high standard.
“And, of course, while half of the proceeds will go to the ward 32 cancer care unit at Ninewells, which is a facility that benefits our community as well as all others in the area, the other 50% of the money we raise will remain in Arbroath and benefit local organisations.”
Mr Hutcheson said: “One of the singing acts taking part is the Swizzle Sisters.
“Maggie, Patti and Paula are three sisters who write their own songs combining folk, country and Americana styles which they sing in beautiful three-part harmonies.
“Another family combination are mother and daughter singers Colette Dear and Eileen Christison and, backstage, Richard Allan will be handling introductions and continuity while his son Andrew will be looking after the lighting.”
Tickets are selling well and, with only a few days until curtain up, Rotary members are hoping for another full house in the Webster.
To warm up for the event, more than 50 Rotarians, partners and guests enjoyed a seafood buffet at Dishlandtown Bowling Club. Around £1,400 was raised from a silent auction of a wide selection of donations which included 10 days in Lanzarote.
Rotarian Alison Christie hailed the generosity of all who donated prizes and those who took part.
