The organisers of an Angus music festival have issued an appeal for bands to help make it happen.

The has run into an unexpected problem there are not enough bands to fill the Carnoustie festival’s eight-hour duration.

And organisers have issued a desperate SOS, asking if any bands would like to play.

They would even consider Taylor Swift, who was this week linked with the purchase of a Perthshire castle.

Organiser Dean McConnachie said he was inspired to raise money for upgrading the town’s artificial football pitch to 3G.

“We’ve been putting this together for a few months and thought that health and safety considerations or catering might be our biggest problems,” he said.

“But the great headache has been getting bands to play.

“We’ll take any sort of music, from hip-hop to heavy metal.

“We have a stage, with generators in place for the sound system, and we’re hoping for a big turnout.

“We reckoned bands would jump at the opportunity to showcase themselves, but we have several slots still vacant.”

The festival takes place on August 29 at Pitskelly Park.

The current surface beside Carnoustie Panmure Junior Football Club’s Laing Park is very basic and play is often called off in rainy or icy weather.

Entry to Party@Pitskelly will be free but with a host of stalls, bouncy castles, a beer tent and various other attractions, Dean hopes to raise hundreds of pounds.

He said: “We looked at Dundee’s Blues Bonanza and Arbroath’s Smokie music event and thought we could do something like that.

“Those are great fun and our festival will be too, so long as we can get enough bands.

“So if anyone has Taylor Swift’s phone number or knows if Metallica are free that Saturday, we’d be grateful but we’ll consider absolutely anyone.

“We want to get Carnoustie rocking and hope music lovers and families from all over Tayside and beyond come along for what will be a great day.”

Dean, who is vice-president of the town’s youth football club, can be contacted on 01241 410393 or 07972 023401.
