Montrose man assaulted woman in ‘alcohol-fuelled’ rage

A Montrose man admitted assaulting a woman by pulling her from a sofa and repeatedly punching her on the head and body at Forfar Sheriff Court yesterday.
Jamie Boyle, 33, of Baird Way, admitted carrying out the offence at an address in John McKay Place on April 12.
Depute fiscal Hannah Kennedy said: “Both the complainer and accused had been out drinking and returned to the locus.
“The complainer was on the couch when the accused approached and pulled her from the sofa on to the floor and repeatedly punched her on the head and body.
“The complainer tried to defend herself and kicked out at the accused. The accused then stopped the attack.
“She went to a neighbour’s house and contacted police. She didn’t have any significant injuries but suffered pain to her head and side.”
Defence agent Billy Rennie said the incident had been “fuelled by alcohol by both parties” and was out of character for Boyle.
He said: “There was an exchange of blows but my client has taken full responsibility.”
Sheriff Pino Di Emidio deferred sentence for four months for Boyle to be of good behaviour.
