Developer warns Ury Estate mansion’s future depends on Jack Nicklaus course getting green light

A Stonehaven mansion could be under threat in years to come if a golf course designed by Jack Nicklaus is not approved, it has been claimed.

The FM Group is behind the £80 million project to transform the Ury Estate at Stonehaven, with housing, a boutique hotel and the championship golf course proposed.

Renovation and conservation work on the iconic B-listed Ury House has started to create a luxury five-star hotel after separate plans were approved for that aspect of the complex.

However, the developers behind the plans have warned the project will not be viable without the proposed Jack Nicklaus Signature Championship Golf Course.

Jonathon Milne, director at Ury Developments Limited, said: “It is essential that having refurbished Ury mansion house, it has a future and does not fall back into disrepair and ultimately a ruin again.

“If we do not have golfers supplementing its operation we do not have a business.”

Montrose-based construction firm Pert Bruce previously secured the restoration contract.
