Residents of an Angus town have been warned a fundraising event could disappear forever unless they get involved.
Brechin Pageant had been an annual fixture for decades until last year’s event was cancelled following a decline in the number of helpers.
The cancellation was a blip in the area’s growing social and event calendar which has grown over the past couple of years.
Organisers have now put the pageant back on the calendar but it will only go ahead if the community gets behind it.
Bravo Brechin spokesman Mark Taylor said: “Without support and help the pageant will fall away and become another victim of our ‘too busy to help out’ society and yet another community initiative will disappear.
“The pageant is an important source of fundraising for a number of local clubs, charities and organisations who, in turn, use this income to provide valuable services for the local community.
“If the pageant was no longer available as a fundraising event then the knock-on effect could be catastrophic for those groups.
“If you believe you can support this important event, please discuss it within your group, arrange a point of contact for us, advise us and more importantly get involved.”
Bravo Brechin is working with businesses, community members and groups to oversee the return of the pageant.
The pageant committee’s plans for the event in Brechin Public Park on Saturday June 7 are well under way with the event incorporating a Commonwealth Games theme.
The aim of the pageant is to once again provide the community with an enjoyable day out as well as raising funds for organisations and charities.
Mr Taylor added: “This is another exciting event for our local area and once again we call on the members of the public to support it in the same loyal manner as they have done in the past.
“We have been giving a large amount of consideration to the future of the event and the part it plays in the social calendar.”
Various stalls will surround the main arena including displays, games, face painting, food and ice cream.
Traditionally, a major part of the pageant has always been the procession and the organisers are very keen to bring this back.
This year’s walking procession is expected to leave from Glebe Park and will be headed by the Brechin Pipe Band.
