Houses raided as police vow to rid Angus of drug dealers

Police stormed houses in Forfar and Kirriemuir today following community tip-offs about heroin dealing in residential areas.

A team of 22 local officers, colleagues from Dundee and dog support units broke down doors at three properties in the latest move of Operation Ajax.

The operation, launched at the end of last year, has already seen dozens of arrests in the county-wide crackdown on anti-social behaviour and violence.

Police swooped on the properties under warrant after receiving intelligence from residents.

Chief Inspector Gordon Milne, the county’s top officer, warned drug dealers that his men and women will continue to be “in their face” if they continue dealing.

CI Milne said the streets of Angus are being flooded with hundreds of thousands of pounds in heroin every year, emanating from “kingpins” in northern England.

Operation Ajax is the latest of a number of police activities to take the war on drugs to the doors of dealers, following Operation Shrug two years ago.

“We embarked on a journey toward the removal of all drug dealers in Angus,” said CI Milne.

“The people of Angus keep telling me we need to deal with drug dealers and that’s exactly what we’re doing.”
