Businesses help Stonehaven man tackle loneliness at Christmas
ByThe Courier Reporter
A Mearns man who cannot stand the idea of people spending Christmas alone has organised a community dinner.
Scott Reid, from Stonehaven, has been at the forefront of organising a dinner for anyone in need of company over the festive period.
He said: “I’ve never liked the thought of people feeling lonely, especially at this time of year.”
He continued: “It is crazy that as technology improves connectivity there are still millions who feel the pang of loneliness.”
Support has come flowing in from businesses including the offer of a turkey from McHardy’s the butcher, £100 in food from the Co-op, and ice cream from Aunty Betty’s.
Many other businesses have also offered to donate food and money to the cause, including St James’s Church, which will host the meal in its hall for free.
Mr Reid added: “Although I only put the idea out on social media last Thursday night the response from the community has already been tremendous.”
Those who would like to attend, or would like to nominate someone they know, can call 07841 434470, leaving a message, or send an email to stoneycares@outlook.com.
