A raffle racer will be on the start line of this year’s Brechin cartie event when the flag drops for the Halloween High Street spectacular.

Organisers have said a bumper entry is set to take to the town centre course in the October event including well-known Angus farmer James Arnott who has landed a seat in one of the stars of last year’s show.

The distinctive yellow and black Land Rover-style machine was built by a team from the AA, who generously decided to raffle the machine to raise money for the ARCHIE Foundation.

Gavin Brymer of BRAVO Brechin said: “This year the AA have built another cartie and say it will be a big surprise so they wanted to do something for charity with the other one.

“One of the stipulations was that if you won it you had to race it, so we’re delighted it has been won by James and will be back again, and that the AA’s gesture has raised hundreds of pounds for charity.”

Mr Brymer said BRAVO hopes to have a field of around 40 carties on Saturday October 31 and fingers are crossed that the event will enjoy the same fine weather which helped draw around 3,000 spectators to watch last year.

“We’ll be running the same course as last year and have managed to secure a giant TV screen for the town centre, so the people there will be able to see the carties further down the course,” he said.

“We’re also planning live timing this year so people will see who has set the fastest time to make things even more exciting for the crowd.”

Mr Brymer added: “The interest has been pretty huge and a few of the schools in the area are also planning to get involved this year, which is something we would really like to encourage.”
