The funeral of former Montrose FC player Giles Gillett has taken place. He was 87.
Born in Edinburgh, Mr Gillett was a key player in the Middlesbrough team in the English first division from 1947 to 1950 before injury and homesickness led him to move back to Scotland.
Mr Gillett was an important member of the Montrose first team throughout the 1952-53 season, due to his ability to score and to create with both feet.
“Gil” was used on the right and left side of the pitch and he wore the number 6 and number 8 shirts for the Gable Endies.
Mr Gillett returned to Middlesbrough and settled there with his wife Jeanne and three children.
He became an amateur footballer and in 1954 scored seven goals in one game for his employer, ICI.
