Angus MSP Graeme Dey has welcomed Angus receiving more funds to help people affected by the spare rooms subsidy being stopped.
Angus Council will receive an additional £600,000 from the Scottish Government to assist people who are struggling with ongoing housing costs, such as rent shortages.
The extra funding will increase the total discretionary housing payment budget in Scotland from £15 million to £35m.
In Angus, the £614,019 of government funding will be added to the existing DHP fund of £413,506, meaning the local authority now has a fund of more than £1m.
Mr Dey said: “The Scottish Government’s latest move to mitigate the so-called bedroom tax is one which I welcome and I am sure many of my constituents will feel the same way.
“Lives are being ruined by this horrendous policy with people having no way to avoid the unfair financial penalties imposed on them by Westminster.
“The Scottish Government is doing what it can, with £20 million recently announced to boost discretionary housing payments to help people in financial trouble across Scotland.”
He added: “Our SNP-led council has committed to a no eviction policy for ‘bedroom tax’ victims, protecting people from the threat of losing their homes.”
