Monifieth beach users urged to be cautious after storms damage sea defences

Monifieth residents have been urged to take a safety first approach along the beachfront after another battering from the winter storms for the area’s sea defences.
For the second time in weeks, heavy seas have toppled a section of the concrete foundations and wooden fencing on the seafront.
Angus Council said they are looking at putting more permanent barriers in place.
“Some temporary repairs have already been carried out,” said a council spokesman.
“A contract is being let to carry out more permanent protection works in the next month, subject to weather and prices.
“In the meantime, the situation is being monitored by our coastal engineers.”
Councillor Rob Murray urged people to stay away from the damaged defences.
The Monifieth situation comes as Angus residents will once again have to batten down the hatches.
Heavy rain and high winds are expected and with many areas already saturated motorists are being warned to be on their guard over the increased risk of localised flooding caused by run-off from fields.
