A free 30-minute parking period is to be introduced in Stonehaven’s Market Square to increase visitor numbers.
Aberdeenshire Council’s infrastructure services committee will be asked to agree to the changes on Thursday.
The existing tariff would rise from 60p to £1.20 for up to two hours in all pay and display car parks with a free parking period included.
All car parks would also have a condition that vehicles cannot return for two hours after the end of the initial free period.
The estimated loss in revenue to Aberdeenshire Council should the recommendations be approved is £93,000 from the financial year 2014/15 onwards.
This is based on the impact that free periods would have on the existing tariffs.
Infrastructure services director Stephen Archer said: “In all towns where a free period is offered, it is proposed to introduce a condition that vehicles can not return to the pay and display car parks in the same town for a period of two hours after the end of the original free period and park for free.
“This will help alleviate concerns that cars will park for more than the free period by repeatedlytaking and displaying free tickets and will help ensure turn-over within the high demand car parks.”
Car parking charges will also be removed from all car parks within Aberdeenshire Council’s country parks at a cost of £17,000.
