A stolen car at the centre of an Angus police chopper hunt has been recovered.
The high performance Audi S3 was taken from the forecourt of a Kirriemuir garage on Friday night, sparking a district-wide operation which led to the vehicle being found in Arbroath on Saturday.
But the thief remains at large.
The £14,000 58-plate car was stolen at 7.20pm on Friday night from Autosales of Kirriemuir on the town’s Lindsay Street, when the garage was still open.
The firm posted CCTV footage of the theft onFacebook and this afternoon confirmed the black Audi had been found in Arbroath.
A police helicopter was drafted in as part of the investigation and it was seen in the skies above Kirrie on Saturday.
The CCTV footage also sparked widespread comment on the social media site.
Garage owner Barrie Ewart said the Audi was undamaged, but made no further comment in light of the ongoing police inquiry.
A police spokesperson confirmed the car’s recovery and said that enquiries into the theft are continuing.
Anyone with information should contact Police Scotland on 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
