Mearns councillors have approved a project costing more than £1 million to transform heating systems in properties across the area.
Gas, electric and solid fuel heating systems at the end of their useful lives will be replaced by more efficient gas central heating systems at 23 homes in Inverbervie, 11 in Laurencekirk and 165 in Stonehaven.
The homes will have gas boilers, radiators, cold water tanks and hot water cylinders installed.
Infrastructure services director Stephen Archer said the project is part of the housing stock improvement works detailed in the Housing Revenue Account (HRA) Capital Programme 2013-16.
The lowest tender, £1,169,924.32 was submitted by Gas Call Services Ltd, Glasgow.
The move has been welcomed by community councillors after approval from the Kincardine and Mearns area committee.
Caroll Evans, a member of Inverbervie Community Council, said: “I had a heating upgrade about 18 months ago and I know the difference it has made to me.
“My heating system was outdated and it was costing me about £40 a week.
“But since I’ve had the upgrade I’ve saved money which is a big help and lets me spend money on other things.
“So I think it’s fantastic to hear that other residents will benefit from heating upgrades, too.”
Stuart Alexander, a member of Stonehaven Community Council, said: “Anything that improves housing in Stonehaven is good.
“I’m sure this will make the residents’ heating systems more efficient and warmer. I can imagine the residents will really welcome this.”
