A new movie filmed in the Mearns by the production company behind This Is England is set for UK release after success at Cannes.
Fife-based Bafta-winning director Paul Wright’s debut feature For Those in Peril will be released on Friday after being shot in Gourdon, St Cyrus, Johnshaven and Stonehaven.
The film was largely shot in Gourdon where villagers signed up as extras, but many also found themselves with speaking parts following auditions at the village hall.
The locals have been described as “amazing” by Mr Wright, who said they got right behind the crew and “really helped out”.
The film will now open in selected cinemas across the UK, with a special screening at Dundee Contemporary Arts on November 8.
For Those in Peril screened at Cannes and is about a tight-knit Scottish fishing community in mourning for five men who have died in a fishing accident at sea.
Last year the crew filmed a memorial scene featuring a congregation of around 100 people attending a service at St Cyrus Church.
For Those in Peril received positive reviews at Cannes and was shown at the festival alongside another film shot in Courier Country.
That film was Under the Skin, starring Hollywood A-lister Scarlett Johansson, which filmed for five days in Auchmithie, by Arbroath, in October 2011.
