Major search of Angus coast as fears grow for missing woman
ByRichard Watt
A major multi-agency search for a woman feared to have drowned off the Angus coast will resume on Friday morning.
Police, Coastguard search and rescue teams and RNLI lifeboats were scrambled to the area around Arbroath cliffs following a missing persons report on Thursday afternoon.
And the hunt for the woman went on as darkness fell on the Angus coast.
The operation was mounted around 3pm and involved both the Arbroath all-weather and inshore lifeboats.
Coastguard personnel from the Angus stations at Montrose, Arbroath and Carnoustie were assisted by colleagues from St Andrews.
A search and rescue helicopter from RAF Kinloss was also involved in the search.
All units were stood down as darkness fell on Thursday.
The Montrose all-weather lifeboat RNLB Moonbeam and inshore lifeboat RNLB Nigel A Kennedy were both launched to assist with the search and became involved in a search for a second missing person on their return to Montrose after received reports of a missing person in the St Cyrus area.
Nobody was found and both boats returned to Montrose at 1.25am.
