Police criticised after Carnoustie man loses leg in road accident
ByGraeme Bletcher
Police have been criticised for failing to prevent a road accident that saw a former Tayside soldier lose his leg.
Greig Yorke from Carnoustie was struck by a car as he walked along the A92 between Arbroath and Carnoustie in the early hours of June 2.
The Police Investigations and Review Commissioner, Professor John McNeill, has found there were “clear failings” both before and after the incident.
In his report, he concluded that opportunities were missed by officers and staff which may have prevented the accident from happening.
Mr Yorke was returning home from a night out with friends in Arbroath when he was struck and the nature of the injury meant the limb could not be re-attached.
The report said officers had contact with him on a “number of occasions” prior to the collision.
Supt Eleanor Mitchell, from Police Scotland, said: “We will consider the findings carefully and make sure that any concerns are addressed.”
