New students at D&A College received a warm welcome at the start of the new academic year.
This is the first time the new intake will be under the banner of Dundee and Angus College after the two institutions merged last year.
Around 50 groups were represented at a freshers’ fair at the college’s Arbroath campus.
Representatives of the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service helped stage an ice bucket challenge.
Student president Marc Winsland, vice-president Conor McLeod, Tatiana Zorina, learner engagement officer, and Craig Nicoll, sport and wellbeing officer, were among those who endured a soaking to raise cash for charity.
They were following in the wet footsteps of college principal Christina Potter, whose own challenge was shared online this week.
“Freshers 2014 is designed to help students get the best out of all the activities on offer in Angus,” said Marc.
“Much as everyone jokes about student lifestyles, D&A College Students’ Association is keen to stress the importance of good health and the opportunities to take part in fitness activities.”
This sentiment was echoed by Tatiana who said: “While we were aiming for a carnival atmosphere with a range of fun activities, we are always keen to promote health and wellbeing among our new students.
“Having organisations giving advice on health, welfare, and finance, and even companies offering employment opportunities, can be very helpful to new students.”
Other groups with stands included the army, the Royal Navy, Arbroath Street Pastors, Angus Women’s Aid and Chaplaincy Scotland.
