A man beat a rival unconscious in a pub toilet fight, a court has heard.
The incident in Hudson’s Bar in Brechin started out as “six of one and half a dozen of the other” before Kevin MacAulay felled his victim before raining down punches and kicks as he lay on the floor.
Appearing before Sheriff Edward Savage at Forfar on Thursday, MacAulay, 27, of Montrose Street, Brechin, admitted the April 28 offence.
Depute fiscal Hannah Kennedy said the incident happened at about 12.30am when the accused was out with friends.
“There was an altercation involving pushing and shoving between them before the accused attacked the complainer,” she said.
The victim was unresponsive to paramedics when they arrived on the scene, but made a full recovery.
Defence agent Nick Markowski said: “The accused has asked me to apologise to the court for his behaviour.
“He was heavily under the influence and is lucky that the injuries sustained by the complainer were not more serious.”
Sheriff Savage told MacAulay: “It seems to be a pattern, a bit of a litany on your record which does you absolutely no favours.”
He imposed a six-month community payback order including 120 hours of unpaid work.
