A Forfar man who assaulted his partner of four years in a street assault was yesterday fined £300 at Arbroath Sheriff Court.
Stanley Chrystall, 45, of Queen Street, admitted assaulting his partner on East High Street, Forfar, on Saturday, by striking her on the head with his hand to her injury.
Depute fiscal Jill Drummond told the court the couple had been out drinking during the day and were walking home when the assault took place.
She said Chrystall was unsteady on his feet and was effectively being propped up by his partner after they left the pub.
Ms Drummond said Chrystall struck his partner with his hand and caught the left side of her face, causing her to suffer a minor injury.
When they got back home, Chrystall locked her out of the flat and the police arrived following a commotion.
While the police were in attendance, his partner said: “He hit us and he slapped us in the street.”
Officers noticed there was swelling to her left ear and they eventually gained entry to the flat.
Solicitor Brian Bell said it was not the first time the pair had been involved in a domestic dispute that had come before the court.
He added that Chrystall’s partner did try to persuade the police to drop the charges afterwards.
Sheriff Peter Paterson said: “The court will not tolerate this. You do not have any right to assault a female. Being drunk is no excuse.”
