An Angus man has admitted stealing and attempting to steal a number of cars while high on drink and drugs.
Kieran Marr, 20, of Palmer Street, Arbroath, appeared at the town’s sheriff court on Monday, where he admitted the charges relating to an incident on Friday August 9.
The court heard how Marr been acting with a companion during the thefts, which all occurred at around 4am on the same day.
Fiscal Hazel Anderson said: “When they were stopped by the police his companion said he was stealing the car to go to Aberdeen.”
Marr admitted stealing a van from the rear car park of Arbroath Motors by using a screwdriver to start the ignition. He also pleaded guilty to throwing a brick through the window of another car before attempting to hotwire it.
He also stole a harmonica from the same vehicle before trying the handles of cars parked at the Hill Street car park, entering an unsecured vehicle and attempting to hotwire it.
He further stole a vehicle from McKay’s Boat Yard and admitted driving without insurance.
Marr’s solicitor said his client had been recently diagnosed with depression and was taking medication.
Before to the incident, Marr had taken the medication and consumed alcohol.
Sheriff Peter Paterson deferred sentence until September 10 for reports and released Marr on bail.
