A “disgusting” indecent exposure at a Tayside primary school was kept under wraps by police for 19 days.

Irate parents are demanding answers from Police Scotland after it was revealed a young man flashed at pupils at Southmuir Primary in Kirriemuir on Friday, June 21.

But it took until Wednesday this week for the force to let the public know of the incident at the school playing fields, during which a 16-year-old interrupted a PE session.

Using the Tayside branch Facebook page, the force posted details of the unsavoury episode at around 3pm.

Parents have voiced their anger at being kept in the dark and have questioned why nobody was informed much earlier.

Police confirmed the incident took place around 1.40pm when a teacher and her class were participating in an outdoor lesson.

Two young men, thought to be aged around 16, walked through the playing field a short distance away from the young pupils.

One of them, wearing grey jogging bottoms and a grey hooded top, tried to attract the attention of the pupils by indecently exposing himself.

In reply to the police Facebook appeal, one parent posted: “Why has this just come to the attention of parents now? My kids go to Northmuir but I would still like to have been made aware of this.”

Another added: “I would hope it wasn’t my son’s class as they have gym Friday afternoons and we weren’t told anything about this.”

A police spokeswoman said: “Officers often have specific lines of inquiry to investigate prior to making any public appeals for assistance.”

Angus Council confirmed staff had been “liaising with police” on the matter.

To assist the inquiry contact police on 101, speak to any police officer or contact Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
