A Tayside marine who savagely assaulted his wife is finally in prison after an appeal was thrown out.
Sergeant Wayne Harrison, of Arbroath-based 45 Commando, handed himself in at Perth Prison on Tuesday to begin a 15-month sentence.
A panel of judges at the High Court of Judiciary in Edinburgh rejected an attempt to have the 33-year-old’s term reduced at the end of last week.
It is understood Harrison spent the weekend with his wife Lynne and her family in North Shields, Tyneside, before travelling back to Scotland to face his fate.
Sheriff Peter Paterson sentenced the serviceman at Arbroath Sheriff Court on April 16 after he admitted slapping, throttling and biting his wife while telling her he was going to kill her.
The court heard he battered her head against a wardrobe and covered her mouth and nose until she fell unconscious during a vicious three-hour assault at RM Condor, Arbroath.
Mrs Harrison, who still suffers impaired hearing from the attack on January 14 last year, ran from court in tears and hurled abuse at Sheriff Paterson as her husband was led away.
Harrison will be subject to a further six months’ supervision following his release from custody.
