A film documenting an Arbroath man’s bid to dupe the music industry is set to have its UK premier.

Scottish rapper Billy Boyd has finally made it to the big time alongside musical partner Gavin Bains, as one half of the duo act Silibil n’ Brains.

The pair of Scottish hip-hop fans fooled the world when they broke on to the scene in the early noughties, pretending to be two up-and-coming rappers from California destined for stardom.

Now a film documenting the lads’ rise to fame is set to make its UK premier today at the Edinburgh Film festival.

Billy told the Courier: “The film was first shown at the South by South West Festival in Texas in March and the response was amazing.

“Just sitting in the theatre hearing people’s reactions was fantastic. It went down a storm and we also played our first live shows out there in years as well.

“Now we are back home, releasing an album and we’re finally getting to play shows as ourselves.”

The journey for the pair has come full circle after their origins in Arbroath took them across the world and now back to Dundee for a homecoming gig this weekend.

Silibil and Brains will play the Reading Rooms in Dundee on Saturday June 29.
