An Arbroath man admitted assaulting two police officers and making racist comments when he appeared at the town’s sheriff court.
James Ryan Paton, 22, of Warddykes Road, admitted that at his home address yesterday he behaved in a threatening or abusive manner likely to cause a reasonable person alarm in that he shouted and swore.
He also admitted assaulting two police officers on duty by repeatedly kicking them on the body and striking them with his hands.
He further admitted making racist remarks to one of the police officers. All the offences took place while Paton was on bail.
Defence agent Lynne Sturrock said her client was subject to a community payback order and he was “doing well” with it.
She added: “Too much drink was consumed. He is extremely apologetic to the court for his behaviour.”
Sheriff William Wood ordered a Criminal Justice Social Work Report but refused an application for bail.
He told Paton: “You have shown flagrant disregard of the fact that you were placed on bail.
“You have assaulted police officers. I am going to remand you for reports.”
