An investigation is under way into an Angus road incident last month in which a former soldier lost his leg.
The Police Investigations and Review Commissioner (PIRC) is investigating the circumstances of a serious road traffic accident on the A92 on June 2.
Police have notified the independent body of details of the incident, in which Carnoustie man Greig Yorke was found lying at the roadside by a carload of nightclub bouncers after a collision with a car took off the bottom of his left leg.
Mr Yorke, 39, served for 10 years in the Royal Engineers and was in Bosnia as a tank driver.
A spokesman for the PIRC said: “Following an incident on Sunday June 2 involving a 39-year-old male pedestrian and a vehicle on the A92 Arbroath to Carnoustie road, the Police Service of Scotland referred the matter to the PIRC.”
It is understood a report will be submitted to the chief constable in due course.
Mr Yorke’s mother Jane Burgess confirmed the family have not lodged a complaint against the police handling of the incident, and that the family have been contacted by the PIRC, but could not comment further.
Territorial Army recruit Catherine Lorimer, 31, from Dundee, was returning from a nightclub shift in Montrose with six colleagues when she came across the scene at Salmond’s Muir junction on the A92. Ms Lorimer gave first aid to Mr Yorke by using her ID badge as a bandage.
The bouncers were given secondary interviews by a team from Livingston around 10 days after the incident, understood to be investigators from PIRC.
