A major new housing development that will bring hundreds of homes to Monifieth could take up to a decade to complete, the developer has revealed.
Taylor Wimpey has already gained planning permission to build 332 homes on land in the north of the town, at The Grange.
It has now lodged new papers with Angus Council that contain more details about how the development will come together.
Taylor Wimpey says the housing which will be built south-east of Victoria Street, opposite Ethiebeaton Park will be built at a rate of just 35 homes per year.
With work set to start in January, it would take until 2026 for all the homes to be built at that rate.
There are concerns in the area over how school and medical facilities will be able to cope with an influx of new residents.
The firm says it will be contributing almost £3.9 million towards community services as part of the project.
A statement from the company said: “The build rate could be increased if there were more than one developer, however, this is not the case at present.”
It added that the timescale is “subject to various influences, such as site construction conditions and marketing conditions throughout the duration of the development”.
It is planned that the first house will be completed by November next year.
A new access road will be constructed early in phase one, from January, with additional roads for the housing being added as the new homes come forward.
The development will consist of detached, semi-detached and terraced houses on what is currently farmland. There will be two access points to the estate, both from Victoria Street.
A quarter of the development will be allocated as social housing.
