An Angus man terrorised his elderly neighbour before walking out into the street topless brandishing a knife, a court heard.
Daniel Christie, 24, of Fisheracre in Arbroath, admitted committing two breaches of the peace with his actions on July 13 and also admitted possessing a knife on the same date when he appeared at Arbroath Sheriff Court on Tuesday.
Sheriff Peter Paterson sentenced Christie to six months in prison, which included two four-month concurrent sentences, for the offences.
The court heard how Christie had been house sitting at an address in Fisheracre and had friends around on Friday July 12.
An 89-year-old resident had contacted police to complain about the noise at around 11.30pm after nobody answered at the accused’s door when she went to speak to him.
An hour later witnesses at Pie Bob’s takeaway saw Christie in the street, topless. The accused tried to skip the queue and was eventually served.
Fiscal Jill Drummond said: “He was served but returned to his address a short time later. The witnesses left Pie Bob’s and observed him shouting and swearing at his neighbour.
“They told him there was ‘no need for that behaviour.’ He swore at them, entered his home and returned holding a black-handled kitchen knife which he tucked into his jeans.”
The witnesses backed away but Christie followed them up the street swearing at them and asking them “who’s next?”
Police were contacted and officers found Christie on Brechin Road. Witnesses spoke to the police and told them the accused had dropped the knife on the pavement.
Officers recovered the weapon and the accused was arrested. Christie’s defence agent Robin Beattie said his client had been heavily abusing alcohol following a relationship breakdown.
