A van driver who hit a car in a snowbound queue of Angus traffic has been fined £500.
Lindsay Rennie, 57, of Inveraldie Crescent, Tealing, was trying to get home when he hit the weather-related snarl-up on the Kellas to Balmuir road near its junction with the main A90 dual carriageway on February 13.
Forfar Sheriff Court heard Rennie encountered the jam around 5pm, with a witness ahead of him waiting to turn right on to the A90.
There had been heavy snow that day and traffic was essentially at a standstill but the self-employed plasterer tried to squeeze his Ford van past the line of cars by going up on to the verge.
He misjudged the manoeuvre, however, and scraped the side of a car, causing extensive denting.
The vehicle’s driver and another man sounded their horns and tried to get Rennie’s attention but he kept on going and was only later traced by police.
Defence agent Bob Bruce said his client was close to home at the time and tried to go up the inside of the queuing traffic in “an error of judgment”.
Rennie also had five penalty points imposed on his licence.
