The people of Arbroath turned out in force to applaud the area’s military in a sun-kissed Saturday parade.
The town’s High Street was a sea of enthusiastic well-wishers as the armed forces parade, led by motorcycling members of the Royal British Legion and a pipe band, set off from the abbey.
Spectators broke into spontaneous applause for the march down the High Street, featuring serving men of 45 Commando, Royal Marine veterans and regiments including The Black Watch, the Sea Cadets and Observer Corps.
Following a salute outside the sheriff court the parade made its way to Victoria Park for a drumhead service in front of hundreds of spectators.
The armed forces and emergency services were also represented at information stalls there, and the afternoon was rounded off by an aerial display by a Pitts Special biplane, whose pilot performed aerobatic stunts in the red and white aircraft against the backdrop of a clear blue sky.
Arbroath Community Council chairman Ian Watson said: “Obviously the weather is a big contributor and it has been a cracking afternoon, but we are so pleased with the response once again from all of the services and organisations involved in the parade.”
