A manhunt has been launched in Arbroath after a woman was sexually assaulted late on Thursday night.
The 22-year-old woman was with the man in Warddykes Avenue at about midnight by a bench on a path that runs behind the primary school when she was attacked.
Police say the man left the area, leaving the woman distressed but unhurt.
The attacker is described as being in his 20s, with short dark brown hair and sun-tanned skin. At the time he wore a light blue T-shirt, blue jeans, trainers and he may have had a black backpack.
Detective Inspector Ally Waghorn said: “Officers are in the area today carrying out further investigation and a review of CCTV coverage in the local area has also been carried out. House-to-house inquiries are also ongoing and there is a visible police presence in the area.
“We know there were a number of people and passing vehicles in the area and we would ask anyone who saw a couple together either in Warddykes Avenue or surrounding streets to contact us as they may be of help to our enquiries.”
A police spokesman added: “Tayside Division appeals to anyone who was in the area between 11pm on Thursday and 1am on Friday morning and who saw a man and a woman in their 20s in one another’s company to come forward.
“Equally, officers want to hear from people if they saw a man or a woman in their 20s alone in the area. They could have information that could help establish the full circumstances around the incident.”
Anyone who can assist should call Police Scotland on 101, or speak to their local officer.
