An Angus man who taunted a profoundly deaf pensioner in a video has had sentence deferred until September 17.
Kevin Hector, 24, of Burnside Place, Montrose, did not appear at Arbroath Sheriff Court on Tuesday because he was working offshore.
Solicitor Nick Markowski told the court his client was not able to get the day off but he had kept in touch with his office and the social work department throughout.
Sentence had previously been deferred for a report to be prepared but it was not available and the case was continued for four weeks.
Hector enticed the vulnerable 69-year-old woman with learning difficulties into a friend’s house before filming her on his mobile phone while making a catalogue of explicit remarks.
Due to her disabilities, the woman was unaware of what was unfolding. The matter only came to light after horrified family members came across the degrading footage on the internet.
Playing to the camera, Hector asked, in perverted terms, if the woman was aroused and asked her to perform a sex act on him.
The offshore worker previously admittedcarrying out the vile act on May 27 this year.
The woman, who is only able to communicate through sign language and a range of vocal sounds, had been walking on Glenogil Street, Montrose, when she was confronted.
Hector had arrived at the address under the influence of alcohol some time previously and was left in the house with another man while the owners went out.
Hector attempted to engage the woman in conversation and when he realised she was deaf he made a gesture offering her a can of beer.
He then took out his mobile phone and began recording with a disturbing “voiceover”, before posting the video on to his Facebook profile.
Family members were made aware of the footage and the police were contacted.
