An Angus musician will swap guitars for glitter balls as part of a charity gig for an inspiring Tealing girl.
Gail Melville, better known in Forfar by stage name That Girl Gail, is backing Niamh’s Dream, a campaign to benefit eight-year-old cerebral palsy sufferer Niamh Horton.
The 36-year-old mum, who has become a regular on the county music scene, will turn her creative hand to a children’s disco at the town’s Club One nightclub on Friday.
She said: “Niamh and her parents are friends of mine and my young daughter and we really want to do something to help them in their fundraising efforts.
“Ian Whyte is kindly letting us hold the disco free of charge in his premises on North Street and will be donating his DJ skills for free. The children will love the opportunity to party on down in a proper nightclub.”
Niamh’s dream is to be able to walk unaided and ride a bike and she recently underwent a selective dorsal rhizotomy operation to reduce the spasticity in her legs.
All funds raised for her campaign will go towards paying for two to three years of post-operation physiotherapy and equipment that will assist her progress.
Proceeds from the disco will go to the appeal and staff working on the night will work as volunteers.
Tickets priced at £3 include refreshments and are available from Toy Castle and the Plough Inn.
The event runs from 7pm to 9.30pm and is open to all primary school children, however any youngsters under P3 must be accompanied by an adult.
Gail, who graduated from Robert Gordon University with a BA in Design and Creativity last year, most recently performed at Live in the Den in Kirriemuir.
She said: “As a mother, artist and musician it really gives me great pleasure to put my skills to good use within the community.
“I’m hoping that with this latest venture, we can sell as many tickets as possible and not only help Niamh with her after care, but provide a great evening’s entertainment for all the primary school kids too.”
