Colourful and heartfelt tributes were paid to an Angus teenager as she was laid to rest.
Friends and family of Shannan Stringer, 13, gathered at George Stewart’s Funeral Directors in Arbroath to pay their final respects to the teenager, who died on August 8.
Hundreds of mourners attended the afternoon service dressed in brightly coloured clothes and football tops in honour of the Arbroath Academy pupil, who died after a suspected epileptic fit.
Shannan had spent time outside school participating in classes and shows put on by local theatre production company LimeLight. Members of the group were out in force to say their goodbyes.
About 30 children from the company, decked out in vibrantly coloured hooded tops, walked along Millgate Loan in the afternoon sun to attend the service.
They comforted each other as they approached the parlour but stayed strong as they walked in. A crowd of about 50 people also stood outside the entrance to the building, silently waiting to enter and join the others in paying their respects.
After the service Shannan’s body was taken to Friockheim Crematorium for a final service.
Her father, Martin Stringer, previously said Shannan was “his life” and was devastated after her death. Her mum, Claire Agnew, previously thanked LimeLight’s Michael Carlin and Chris O’Mara for their efforts with her daughter while she attended the group.
They renamed the company’s Showstopper award in honour of Shannan as they said that the ethos behind it sheer determination, effort, and constantly working as hard as possible to achieve and be the best they can was personified by Shannan.
