Three people are facing deportation after they were found to be working illegally in Angus.
Police and UK Border Agency (UKBA)staff raided a Chinese restaurant in Montrose on Friday night following a tip-off. Officers stood guard outside during the swoop at the Peking Palace and diners were turned away.
A police spokeswoman said further investigation revealed that three people were in the UK illegally. A spokesman for the UKBA said it was a police-led operation and they could not comment further.
Friday’s operation was the latest in a series of immigration raids in Angus. Restaurants in the county were also targeted by officers in February.
Immigration officers swooped on two eateries named the Bengal in Monifieth and Forfar as well as The Swan in Kirriemuir.
As a result, 16 Bangladeshi men were detained by police following the February operation, which involved 60 UKBA officers.
The Peking Palace in Charleton Road is extremely popular with Angus diners, both as a restaurant and as a takeaway outlet. The restaurant was open for business again on Saturday night, despite the police swoop the previous evening.
A member of staff approached by The Courier said he could not comment on the raid by police.
“We are still open,” he added.
