Ronald Miller, known across Angus as Mr Entertainment, has died at the age of 83 after a short illness.
He was renowned as a publicity and entertainment officer, initially in Montrose, and was also a leading figure in operatic and dramatic groups at local and national level.
Born in Scone in 1930, Mr Miller was educated at Kinnoull Primary and Balhousie Boys’ School.
Following national service in the Royal Signals, he was employed in the Perth Cooperative Society and worked with the company in Lanark and Brechin before being appointed as publicity and entertainments officer in Montrose.
The role was one he relished and which suited his talents perfectly, extending across the district in the following years.
From his early years, Mr Miller was passionate about theatre and music.
He learned to ‘tread the boards’ with Perth Operatic Society and his interest and talent were greatly developed in his adopted Angus where he was a key player on and off stage.
A founder member of Montrose Operatic Society, with whom he had many leading roles, he was also involved at national level as a representative on the National Operatic and Dramatic Society for 30 years.
Locally, his contribution both as a performer and as a producer to groups like the Kaims Players, the Pantomime Group and other groups earned him the town’s Citizen of the Year award in 1999.
Mr Miller is survived by his wife Sheila, their sons Ronald and Martyn and four grandchildren.
