Cat owner’s anguish at pets’ injuries

Cat owner’s anguish at pets’ injuries

A cat-loving Angus couple have endured a summer of anguish after sickening injuries to both of their pets.

In the space of a month, James and Moira Richardson have seen one of their young cats have a leg amputated, before their other pet returned home with a badly battered face just days ago.

The Forfar couple have no way of knowing how China and Flash came by their injuries, but they fear either or both cats may have been maliciously attacked and are warning other pet owners to be vigilant.

Mr Richardson, of Old Brechin Road said; “I don’t know if someone is just being bad, but to have both cats come home badly injured in such a short time is bizarre.”

He added: “When we lost our older cats we got these two younger ones last year and they’re both around nine months now.

“They have been out during this recent good weather and might go away for a couple of days, but they tend not to cross the busy road and stay more in the Whitehills area, which is why we don’t think that they have been hit by a car.”

China was the first pet to come home injured, around a month ago, when he returned with a badly broken leg which vets could not save.

“He’s getting around OK now, but there were no other obvious injuries so it seems that it was just his left that got it,” he said.

“Then just at the end of last week Flash came in and it looked as if his face was just shoved in the whole jaw was just broken.

“We didn’t know what would happen to him and he looked a real mess.”

Mr Richardson continued: “It’s just so suspicious that they have both suffered these bad injuries out of the blue.

“If someone is doing something like this to cats that are wandering about then they should stop and think about how they would feel if it was their animal, or a member of their family who was coming home like this after being attacked for no reason.

“It doesn’t look like they have been fighting and I don’t think the injuries look like they have been hit on the road.

“The vet’s just not sure about what has happened to them, but it just seems bizarre that they’ve both come home with bad injuries.”
